House conversions include former non-residential properties, including churches, agricultural buildings and old commercial properties. Whatever the original building type, there are many things to consider with such a house conversion, but all can be transformed into a character property. Of course, when adapting listed buildings, particular care and sensitivity are required.

Large detached, semi-detached and terraced properties may be suitable for conversion into flats, especially in urban areas. Indeed, converting a house into flats could open up a valuable new revenue stream for the property owner. The design will need to be carefully thought out to take fire safety, sound and thermal insulation into consideration, and room sizes will need to be adequate. In many cases, parking will also need to be provided.

Bungalow conversions
Adapting a bungalow may involve increasing available floor area with an extension, conversion of loft space or even raising the existing roof to add a storey so the property is no longer a bungalow.

Whatever the existing residence, an imaginative conversion is often possible with creative utilisation of a loft, a garage or a basement. Such conversions create the home offices, playrooms and bedrooms needed for modern living, while loft conversions and basement conversions immediately add extra space without the need to move or extend.
