Loft Conversion
Do you urgently need extra living space in your home without the hassle of moving house or extending the property?

If so, a loft conversion (or attic conversion) could give you the additional living space you want. Whether you want another bedroom to accommodate a growing family, a home office, an ensuite master bedroom, a TV games room or even a gym, converting a loft offers endless possibilities to enhance your home lifestyle.

We assess the suitability of your roof for a loft conversion
As loft conversion specialists, we understand that, because of individual requirements and different property characteristics, all loft conversions are different. That’s why we start by assessing the suitability of the loft or attic space for conversion. For many years trussed rafters have been used in new homes. Unfortunately, they aren’t suitable for loft conversions and must be removed, followed by construction of a new roof. Traditionally-constructed roofs are better suited, although the roof pitch may affect the potential for conversion (steeper roofs generally offer more scope).

Types of loft conversion
Popular types of attic conversion include Velux-only conversions, dormer roofs (front, rear and side) and gable conversions to hipped roofs. Bungalow loft conversions are also possible, to create a new bedroom and en suite or for other uses. A dormer loft conversion is an extension of the existing roof to create additional space and headroom. It’s probably the most common type of loft conversion.

Planning permission and building regulations
Although planning permission isn’t always needed, loft conversion plans are required for building regulations. We can advise whether planning is required. We also provide design and build services and work with engineers and building inspectors.

As well as extra space, the benefits include improved loft and floor insulation and a consequent reduction in fuel bills; this will give your property a better energy performance rating. Other energy efficient measures include fitting a new energy efficient boiler, energy efficient glazing and the use of eco-friendly materials. The installation of solar panels may also be possible – as an experienced loft conversion company, we can advise you.
